Wiring Connection of solar panel Junction box and function of diodes that used into it ?

This article is about the wiring connection of back side of solar panel junction box. After reading this article you will know about wiring of solar panel junction box.

In the below image you can see a junction box of solar panel. Their are two terminals, one terminal is positive and other one is negative also their are two diodes. Both the terminals are connected with battery through the charge controller. If you see junction box clearly you can find this is a loop system. There are three terminals and that's why it's called loop system. Here the connected diodes are in forward bias from solar panels to give output for battery charging.

In diagram you can see a simple setup of solar panel charging the batteries with a blocking diode in series with panels. During day time while solar panels are producing the voltage is greater then the charging voltage but during night their are no voltage producing by the panels. So, the voltage of battery will cause of flow in the opposite direction of the solar panels. It will discharging the battery if their are not used the blocking diode.

Now consider in the above diagram, if one of the solar panel is shaded(shading is caused by snow, tree branch , debris etc.), the panel is not producing significant power as well as it have very high resistance. it wil block the flow of power produced by other unshaded panel. By using bypass diode, current produced by the other unshaded panel can flow through the bypass diode because of high resistance of shaded panel.
